NICO ROOS’ PAINTINGS IN THE MAIN GALLERY @ NAGN

@ 18h00

Tuesday 12-06-07 to Saturday 30-06-07

Nico Roos’ has an excellent reputation as a semi/abstract expressionist painter of Namibian landscapes. Namibia’s haunting and desolate landscape has challenged many a landscape painter from Jentsch to Voigts, and consequently Roos.

“Not content with merely depicting the unique light or vast distances, his intimacy with Namibia allows him to crawl under its skin into its chaotic geology.  Broken, sun cracked rocks litter his canvas, organic objects bent with dessication into shapes that are somehow recognizably ‘Namibian’ to anyone who has been there, lie on a landscape that seems to show the very curvature of the planet.” (Mark Read, The Everard Read Gallery, Rosebank, Gauteng).

His surfaces are vibrant with painterly marks, rich in detail and animated surfaces  Through Roos’art the Namibian landscape is promoted, conserved and more easily accessible to the public, and vice-versa.
